HabitatArtemesia scrub. Area of volcanic (lava) mesas; at breaks, breaking to shallow valley to south. Rocky volcanic-derived ground. Associates: Artemesia, grasses. Locally common. Subshrub, in Subshrub, in clumps about 9' across, stems spreading, less often a few upright; the various stem of the clumps apparently joining rather far underground--hard to get connections intact; tenaciously rooted among rocks in soil. Chrom. # n=9. Flower: outer sepals brownish-rose; wings bright rose; upper petals light silvery-rose; upper petals light silvery-rose-pink w/dark tips; keel light pink based, base of sac cream-green, bottom part of tip rose, top of tip and large beak bright greenish yellow.
