HabitatLodgepole Forest Piute Canyon up to 10,400-10,600'; Subalpine Forest to 10,800' (even 11,200' on few favored rocky slopes); occas. Pinus albicaulis krunholtz to 11,200', rare specimens to 11,600'; basin mostly above 11,000' and alpine with extensive areas herbaccous alpine cover. Kalmia fruiting and abundant but inconspicuous in wet meadowy area in morainal section ca. 11,180' ca. 1/2 way between Lower Desolation L. and Tomahawk L.
