NotesPerennial, basal leaves, especially petiole, persistent but shriveled at flowering, uncommon on steep mesic slopes, usually in the shade of tall shrubs, among grasses and weeds, loose clayey soils. Associates: Sambucus, Rhus integriolia, Malosma, heteromeles, Simmondsia, Isomeris, Achillaea, Gnaphalium californicum, Bloomeria crocea, Nasella lepida, Melica imperfecta, Pholistoma membranaceum, Galium aparine, Carduus pycnocephalus, Lolium, Brachypodum, and Bromus diandrus.;
