Locality Elder Creek Sediment Removal Project. Sacramento Valley. Near center of Elder Creek channel, ca 2.25 air mi NW of its confluence with the Sacramento River and 220 ft W of the San Benito Ave. bridge at the town of Gerber. Ca 25 ft E of railroad bridge, on gravel berm on N side of now-dry lowflow channel. Gravel piled, and somewhat compact, but not as cemented with hard silt as more common for this species in this creekbed.

HabitatIn full sun with scattered native and non-native forbs including Heliotropium europaeum, Polanisia dodecandra subsp. trachysperma, Acmispon americanus, Amaranthus albus and Dysphania botrys. C. ocellata subsp. Ocellata not observed in this channel. One of approximately 150 plts of subsp. Rattanii found 2015-2016 in Elder Creek channel downstream of the railroad bridge at Gerber. Approx. 10 to 15% of plts observed are drying or already brown, but most are green and in full flower and fruit, from 3 to 18 inches in diameter.
