Locality Modoc Plateau. Near top of Shaffer Mountain, southeast-facing slope, steep and very rocky with lots of outcrops of hard dark volcanic rock.

HabitatSoutheast-facing slope, steep and very rocky with lots of outcrops of hard dark volcanic rock. Vegetation dominated by Artemisia tridentata and Purshia tridentata, and with Balsamorhiza deltoidea, scattered Holodiscus, Ephedra, Juniperus. Flowers light creamy-yellow; plants occasional on open places, roadside, etc.
