Locality Central High Sierra Nevada. Southern ide of the flat broad rocky outlet of the large un-named lake at the head of Virginia Lakes Basin. Moist meadowy border of the drainage and of the lake; open; substrate is metavolcanic rock; other common species are Carex nigricans, Kalmia polifolia, Salix petrophila, Potentilla glaucophylla. Plants not common, forming short dense clumps 3-6 cm diameter, inflorescences quite young.
