Locality Northern Sierra Nevada Foothills. Pine Hill Preserve, Cameron Park Unit; Shingle Springs 1.5 km west of junction of Hwy 50 and South Shingle Road/Ponderosa Road, and 0.3 km north of Hwy 50.

HabitatRidgetop chaparral on rocky gabbro soils, heavily burned 3-4 years ago; lots of stump sprouting from Arctostaphylos viscida, Cercis occidentalis, Frangula californica subsp. tomentella, Baccharis pilularis, Eriodictyon californica, Quercus wislizeni; on bare ground around thick patches of Vulpia, Hypochaeris glabra. Plants reddish, prostrate; abundant on bare ground.
