Locality Northern High Sierra Nevada. Plumas National Forest; top of Mt. Ararat, 6.5 km southeast of Bucks Lake.

HabitatRocky flat mountain top; bedded hard metamorphic rock, mostly bare rocky and gravelly ground with scattered white fir, Ponderosa pine, huckleberry oak, patches of green-leaf manzanita. Plants common here; branches and rosettes prostrate, flowering stems erect; flowers bright yellow, aging reddish-yellow.
