HabitatHighly eroded area of massive granitic boulders forming badlands-type topography cut into broad alluvial fan, with a few outcrops rising above the general surface of the bajada. Vegetation open scrub of Larrea tridentata, Ambrosia dumosa, Eriogonum fasciculatum, Viguiera parishii, Atriplex polycarpa, Menodora spenescens, Encelia farinosa, Hymenoclea salsola, Acacia greggii, and Perityle emoryi; rich display of annuals, especially Boraginaceae (e.g. Amsinckia tessellata, Cryptantha micrantha, Cryptantha circumscissa, Cryptantha pterocarya, Cryptantha maritima, Cryptantha angustifolia, Pectocarya recurvata, Pectocarya heterocarpa, Pectocarya platycarpa), Malacothrix glabrata, Eriophyllum wallacei, Eriophyllum pringlei, Phacelia distans, Phacelia campanularia, Pholistoma, Vulpia octoflora, Schismus barbatus, Bromus trinii, Bromus rubens, Chaenactis spp., and Rafenesquia neomexicana. Annual, flowers white. Common.
