Locality Modoc Plateau. Surprise Valley; east side of Middle Alkali Lake, south side of Hwy 299 10.5 km east of Cedarville.

HabitatOpen plains of alkali flats and slightly raised areas of greasewood and rabbitbrush scrub; saltgrass common. Occasional , especially around the Shepherdia argentea shrubs, but less of this than the other annual present- Bassia hyssopifolia; leaves not fleshy.
