HabitatE- to SE-facing, rocky slopes above road, in loose silty soil. Growing in between rocks or under pines. Associated with Arabis sp., Arenaria, Artemisia tridentata, Astragalus cf. lentiginosus, Bromus tectorum, Castilleja applegatei, Ceanothus greggii vestitus, Cordylanthus, Elymus elymoides, Ephedra viridis, Ericameria linearifolia, Erigeron, Eriogonum fasciculatum, E. cf. panamintense, E. umbellatum, Pinus monophylla, Platyopuntia, Poa secunda, and Purshia glandulosa.
