HabitatLoose gravelly soil, in pine duff, on open, sunny, granitic, NNE-facing slope. Associatd with Abies concolor, Calocedrus decurrens, Cordylanthus, Eriogonum cf. umbellatum, Erysimum capitatum, Pinus cf. ponderosa, and Quercus chrysolepis.

macromorphologyMale plant. Locally common perennial, low-growing, to 6 in. tall. Leaves clustered at base. Fruits short-hairy, erect and appressed. Flowers divided halfway to base, glabrous, red in bud, cream-colored when mature. Galls or swollen stems observed in the internodes of most plants. More males than females observed (90 : 10).
