NotesTHE FOUR SEASONS, Volume 5, Number 4, August 14, 1978. The green leaved, non-burl forming manzanitas with compact, clavate rachises of San Benito and Monterey counties have been variously described as: Arctostaphylos chaloneorum, Arctostaphylos benitoensis, Arctostaphylos pseudopungens. If these specimen sheets were mixed up with no indication of locations on the label, the irregular variation of morphological characters would make it impossible to perform a determination. despite the fact that the location would indicate the species named above, it may be more prudent to consider this: Arctostaphylos pungens HBK sens. lat. Walter Knight - 1/21/79;
