Locality Dana Plateau (north of Mt. Dana), near the summit of the Sierra Nevada
Elevation 3540 m
HabitatIn gravels and crevices on the granitic portion of the Plateau, scarcely intruding upon the metamorphic portion. Growing with Ivesia lycopodioides ssp. typica, but no evidence found of hybridization between the two. Also associated with Podistera nevadensis, Erigeron ursinus (E. algidus), Hulsea algida (rare), Draba oligosperma var. subsessilis, Phlox caespitosa, Sitanion hystrix, Penstemon Menziesii ssp. Davidsonii, Antennaria alpina var. media, Poa rupicola, Kentrophyta montana.

macromorphologyPlants viscid throughout, somewhat odorous; herbage pallid; flowers erect at anthesis, the discoid hypanthium yellow and the elliptic clawed petals golden yellow and shorter than the sepals, at length bleaching white as the flower nods in age and the sepals close over the developing akenes; pistils 3 in ca. 80% of the flowers, of the remainder the majority have 4 pistils, very few have 2 or 5 pistils. In places forming a discontinuous thick carpet, the individuals up to 40 cm. across.
