Determination | Carpenteria californica More information: Jepson Online Interchange |
Collector, number, date | Carl B. Wolf, 4784, 1933-5-18 |
Verbatim date | May 18, 1933 |
County | Fresno |
Locality | W. slope Sierra Nevada, 1 1/2 mi. above Tollhouse on road to Pineridge. Watercourse above Tollhouse, Grapevine spring is .5 mi. above this pt. and is marked by a water trough. |
Habitat | Upper Sonoran: Digger pines, & Sierra live oak, dec. granite, semishade, rock. This colony above tollhouse can be seen from the road, with one bush just off the road and a dozen or so scattered up the small moist ravine. A fire last year or so wiped out most of the Carpenteria at Grapevine Spring. Another fire or two in the area might easliy eradicate the species here although it does occur in several other areas locally and would probably not become extinct everywhere. |
