Kallymenia schizophylla J. Agardh, 1848a: 48 (`Kalymenia') (type locality: Table Bay, Cape Peninsula, South Africa).—Barton, 1893: 141.
Note: This species was first described by J. Agardh (1844: 40) from a specimen sent to him by Harvey under the name Rhodomenia schizophylla. Agardh, however, indicated that the species was referable to Kallymenia. Because Harvey's binomial was not accepted by Agardh, it was not validly published (see Art. 34.1). According to R. Norris (1964: 96), this species does not occur east of the Cape of Good Hope. The specimen on which Barton's record from Port Natal is based was examined at Kew in 1954 by Papenfuss, who wrote in his notebook that it was a remarkable plant, unknown to him, and not K. schizophylla.
