Note: De Toni & Levi (1888: 52) cited a specimen from Natal, South Africa, in Zanardini's herbarium, but this may be an error. Papenfuss (notes) saw specimens of Phyllophora obtusa (in S) collected by Gueinzius supposedly from Natal. In his opinion, the locality was given in error. Womersley (pers. comm.) is transferring this species to Rhodymenia in the next part (IIIB) of his Marine benthic flora of southern Australia, scheduled to appear in 1996.
