Note: Turner (l.c.) assigned to Fucus aculeatus a collection sent to Linnaeus from Sri Lanka. This collection has not been cited by subsequent authors. It is undoubtedly not representative of Desmarestia aculeata, which is otherwise known only from the North Atlantic Ocean (Fletcher, 1987: 276).
