Fucus tamariscifolius Hudson, 1762: 469; lectotype locality: Cornwall, England fide Roberts, 1968: 256).
Cystoseira tamariscifolia (Hudson) Papenfuss, 1950b: 185.
Taxonomic synonym:
Fucus ericoides Linnaeus, 1763: 1631 (type locality: Europe).
Cystoseira ericoides (Linnaeus) C. Agardh, 1820a: 52.—Barton, 1893: 83.
Note: The conspecificity of Fucus tamariscifolius and F. ericoides was proposed by Goodenough & Woodward (1797: 130), who, however, adopted the later of the two names. Barton recorded this species from Cape Agulhas, eastern Cape Province, South Africa, on the basis of a Hohenacker collection (in BM). According to Papenfuss (notes), this specimen is not identifiable. Cystoseira tamariscifolia is known with certainty only from the North Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
