Conferva repens Dillwyn, 1802 [1802–1809]: pl. 18 (syntype localities: Yarmouth and Dover, England).
Callithamnion repens (Dillwyn) Lyngbye, 1819: 128.—Drège, 1843: 155, 170.
Note: This alga, which is currently known as Spermothamnion repens (Dillwyn) Rosenvinge (1924: 298), is apparently confined to the North Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea (Maggs & Hommersand, 1993: 142). Authentic Drège specimens (from between the Omtendo [Umtentu] and Omsamculo [Umzimkulu] river mouths, Natal) on which the South African record is based could not be found by Papenfuss (notes), who searched in several likely European herbaria.
