Bryopsis cupressina Lamouroux, 1809b: 333 (type locality: Mediterranean coast of Africa).—Barton, 1896: 459.
Note: According to Papenfuss (notes), Barton's record from Cape Point (western Cape Province, South Africa) is referable to Bryopsis africana Areschoug (q.v.), while her record from Plettenberg Bay (eastern Cape Province) is referable to an undescribed species. It may be noted that Bryopsis cupressina is an earlier name for B. cupressoides J. Agardh (1842: 20), which, although frequently and incorrectly accredited to Lamouroux, is an illegitimate superfluous name attributable directly to J. Agardh.
