Note: In transferring Flabellaria palmetta to Udotea, De Toni was obligated to change the epithet because of the prior existence of U. palmetta Decaisne (1842b). A. Gepp & E. Gepp (1911: 120–121, 143, pl. VI: figs. 49–51) described U. explanata, a new species from Celebes, Indonesia, to which they assigned F. palmetta as a synonym, with doubt.
