Note: Codium geppiorum is a substitute name for Codium divaricatum A. Gepp & E. Gepp, a later homonym of C. divaricatum (C. Agardh) Biasoletto (1841: 237) (C. tomentosum var. divaricatum C. Agardh, 1823 [1822–1823]: 454; lectotype locality: Cádiz, Spain fide P. Silva, 1960: 516), a taxonomic synonym of C. decorticatum (Woodward) Howe. Another earlier homonym is C. divaricatum Holmes (1896c), a taxonomic synonym of C. subtubulosum Okamura. Because Schmidt, when proposing a substitute name, intended to honor both Mr. and Mrs. Gepp, the epithet geppii is correctable to geppiorum (genitive plural) in accordance with Rec. 60C.1(b), enforced by Art. 60.11.Codium geppiorum is a complex of repent, procumbent or decumbent, anastomosing forms found throughout the Indo-Pacific region. It is the counterpart of C. repens P. Crouan & H. Crouan in the tropical Atlantic. Codium taitense is probably conspecific with C. geppiorum. The misapplication of C. tomentosum was noted by Børgesen (1946: 52), while that of C. vermilara was established by an examination of the cited specimen (in W).
