INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: India, Indonesia (Sumba and Timor), Kenya, Laccadive Islands, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives (Addu Atoll), Mascarene Islands, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nicobar Islands, Oman, Pakistan, Réunion, Rodriguez Island, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand.

Note: The synonymy was proposed by P. Silva (1952b: 382). Codium adhaerens C. Agardh (1823 [1822–1823]: 457; syntype localities: near Cádiz, Spain; near Toulon, Mediterranean France) is restricted to Atlantic Europe and North Africa. Most Indian Ocean records of C. adhaerens (outside of South Africa and Australia) apply to C. arabicum, but it is possible that East African records of C. adhaerens and C. arabicum apply to C. mozambiquense P. Silva.
