Siphonocladus sundanensis (Reinbold) Reinbold in Weber-van Bosse, 1913a: 83, 84, expl. fig. 18 on p. 77 (including Indian Ocean record).
Misapplied name:
Valonia cladophora.—Dickie, 1874b: 198 (fide Børgesen, 1940: 21); record repeated by De Toni (1889: 377–378).
INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Aldabra Islands, Diego Garcia Atoll, India, Indonesia (Java), Kenya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Réunion, Seychelles, Singapore, Somalia, Tanzania, Thailand.
Note: Reinbold (l.c.) was ambivalent regarding the generic placement of this species, treating it in the main entry under Cladophoropsis, but elsewhere under Siphonocladus. According to Børgesen (1946: 15, 28–29), specimens reported by Jadin (1935: 155) as Cladophora repens Harvey var. colombensis Grunow are referable to C. socialis and Cladophoropsis sundanensis. We have not been able to find the place of publication of the Grunow name.
