Note: Aegagropila javanica was based on a collection by Zollinger (no. 2379). On transferring the name to Cladophora, Kützing was obligated to change the epithet because of the existence of Cladophora javanica Kützing (1847b: 773), a freshwater species also collected by Zollinger (no. 2479a). When the species is transferred to Siphonocladus or Cladophoropsis or returned to Aegagropila, however, the original epithet must be restored. Rhizoclonium grande and Chaetomorpha prostrata are included as synonyms on the authority of S. Dixit (1968: 13), who stated that these names apply to the basal perennating portion of Cladophoropsis javanica. Cribb (1960: 10) considered it improbable that "C. zollingeri is distinct from the earlier described C. herpestica''. Siphonocladus fasciculatus is included as a synonym on the authority of Yoshida, Nakajima, & Nakata (1990: 272).
