Rhizoclonium antillarum Kützing, 1849: 384 (type locality: Cuba).—G. Martens, 1870c: 259.— Prain, 1905: 330.

INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: India.

Note: Rhizoclonium antillarum was placed in the synonymy of R. hieroglyphicum (C. Agardh) Kützing by Rabenhorst (1868: 329). The former is a marine species, however, while the latter was originally described from a cave near Carlsbad [Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic]. Biswas (1949a: 75, pl. V: fig. 47) recorded R. hieroglyphicum from salt and brackish water.
