Note: In transferring Conferva brachyclados to Cladophora, Kützing was obligated to change the epithet in view of the existence of Cladophora brachyclados (Kützing) Kützing (1845: 216) (Conferva crispata var. brachyclados Kützing, 1833c: no. 67; type locality: Seeburg, Halle, Germany), a species that was referred by van den Hoek (1963: 113) to Cladophora rivularis (Linnaeus) van den Hoek (q.v.).
