* Cladophora clavuligera Grunow

Cladophora clavuligera Grunow, 1867: 40 (type locality: Sri Lanka).—Rajendran et al., 1991: tables 1, 2.

INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: India.

Note: Cladophora clavuligera was described from fresh water. In his cytotaxonomical study of this species, M. Balakrishnan (1961d: 35) noted that it is a common freshwater alga, growing as small tufts on the shells of living freshwater snails or on the masonry walls of garden ponds or wells. M. Balakrishnan's record was included by V. Krishnamurthy & H. Joshi (1970: 4) in their check list of Indian marine algae, without comment. Rajendran et al. (1991) considered it a seaweed resource in the Bay of Bengal, but the identification of this material obviously needs to be confirmed.
