Note: The combination Cladophora aegagropila, usually ascribed to Rabenhorst (1868: 343), was first made by Trevisan (l.c.). Although usually considered a freshwater alga, this species tolerates salinities of 5–6 o/oo (van den Hoek, 1963: 56).
