Cloniophora Tiffany

Cloniophora plumosa (Kützing) Bourrelly

Stigeoclonium plumosum Kützing, 1849: 356 (type locality: Cayenne, French Guiana).

Cloniophora plumosa (Kützing) Bourrelly in Bourrelly & Manguin, 1952: 203 (`plumosum').—Islam, 1961: 16.— Salam & Khan, 1978: 63–64, figs. 1, 2.

INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Bangladesh, Sri Lanka.

Note: According to Islam (1961: 24), Cloniophora Tiffany (1936: 173) has an unusual worldwide distribution. Almost all collections have been made from cool, running fresh water very near the coast, and it is possible that some sites are influenced by tidal sea water. The two Indian Ocean records are both from the mouth of a river.
