Vaucheria erythrospora Christensen, 1956: 275–277, figs. 1a–d.—Islam, 1965: 54–55, pl. 2: figs. 1–3; pl. 4: figs. 8–12.— Islam, 1974a: 23, pl. 11: figs. 1–4.— Islam, 1974b: 90.— Islam, 1976: 26.
INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Bangladesh.
Note: Vaucheria erythrospora is an elevation in rank of V. hamata forma salina, the change in epithet being necessitated by the prior existence of V. salina Kützing (1849: 489; type locality: Hanau, Hesse, Germany). The type of V. erythrospora and V. hamata var. salina was discussed by Christensen (1986b: 276), who, in the absence of specimens, designated the original description as holotype. In the Berlin Code (Greuter, 1988), however, descriptions were disqualified from serving as types, so that the type of V. erythrospora must be chosen from Rieth's illustrations. We designate Rieth's fig. 5 as lectotype.
