INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Australia, Pakistan.

Note: Fucus peronii Mertens was initially superfluous and hence illegitimate since its protologue included the citation of Fucus decurrens R. Brown ex Turner (Sargassum decurrens (R. Brown ex Turner) C. Agardh (q.v.)). When C. Agardh (1820a) established the genus Sargassum, however, he recognized both S. peronii and S. decurrens, so that S. peronii is a legitimate name attributed solely to C. Agardh. Sargassum boryi was referred to S. peronii by Womersley (1954b: 344–345).
