Note: Dictyota bartayresiana var. denticulata, which Kützing illustrated using material from the Cape Verde Islands but did not describe, is valid in accordance with the special provision for non-vascular plants made by Art. 44.2. Kützing cited D. crenulata J. Agardh (1847) as a synonym, but J. Agardh (1882: 99) expressed doubt that the two taxa were conspecific.
