Note: Phloiocaulon is derived from two Greek words, floios (bark of trees) and kaulos (stem), referring to the heavy cortication. The spelling was changed to Phloeocaulon by Sauvageau (1904 [1903–1914]: 439) for the sake of euphony, but such a change is proscribed by Art. 60.1.
