Misapplied name (fide J. Agardh, 1863 [1851–1863]: 1099):

Dictyomenia fimbriata.—Krauss, 1846: 212.

INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Mozambique, South Africa.

Note: Kuetzingia natalensis was based on a specimen that had been misidentified by G. Martens as Dictyomenia fimbriata (Lamouroux) Greville (1830: l [i.e. 50]), a nomenclatural synonym of Osmundaria fimbriata (Lamouroux) R. Norris (q.v.). In his discussion incidental to Vidalia fimbriata, J. Agardh (1863 [1851–1863]: 1125) referred to his new species as Amansia martensii, indicating that he had changed his mind before settling on its name and taxonomic position.
