Note: In transferring Dasya tenella to Polysiphonia, Harvey was obligated to change the epithet because of the prior existence of P. tenella (C. Agardh) Moris & De Notaris (1839: 265). The epithet could not be restored by Falkenberg because of the existence of Herposiphonia tenella (C. Agardh) Ambronn (1880: 197). Polysiphonia tenella and Herposiphonia tenella are treated as nomenclatural synonyms of H. secunda forma tenella (C. Agardh) Wynne.
