The following taxon may lie within the circumscription of Chondria dasyphylla but has not yet been transferred or reduced to synonymy:
Chondriopsis dasyphylla (Woodward) C. Agardh forma pyrifera J. Agardh, 1863 [1851–1863]: 810 (type locality: not specified).
Taxonomic synonym:
* Laurencia intricata Suhr, 1840: 265, nom. illeg. (type locality: Madagascar).—Kützing, 1849: 858.— De Toni, 1903: 808.
INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Madagascar.
Note: The nomenclatural treatment of Chondriopsis dasyphylla forma pyrifera is equivocal. In the protologue, J. Agardh cited three names: Laurencia pyrifera (Kützing) Kützing (1849: 853) (Chondria pyrifera Kützing, 1845: 328; type locality: Lessina [Hvar], Croatia), with a query; Laurencia intricata Suhr, an illegitimate later homonym of L. intricata Lamouroux; and Chondria curdieana Harvey mscr., based on a specimen from southern Australia and eventually validated as Chondriopsis curdieana by J. Agardh (1892: 152). Because J. Agardh supplied a description, the trinomial could be treated as the name of a new taxon, or as a new name and new rank for Laurencia intricata, or as a new combination of Chondria pyrifera, disregarding the query.
