University Herbarium, UC Berkeley: Indian Ocean Catalogue

IOC entry for Bostrychia calliptera

Previous entry: Amansia rhodantha

Bostrychia Montagne, nom. cons.

Note: Bostrychia was recently monographed by King & Puttock (1989), who assigned several species to Stictosiphonia, a genus proposed hesitantly by J. Hooker & Harvey (in J. Hooker, 1847 [1845–1847]: 483) and subsequently considered only a subgenus or section of Bostrychia, as by Harvey (1849 [1847–1849]: 69).

Bostrychia calliptera (Montagne) Montagne

Rhodomela calliptera Montagne, 1840: 197–198, pl. 5: fig. 2 (type locality: Cayenne, French Guiana).

Bostrychia calliptera (Montagne) Montagne, 1842d: 661.—Post, 1936: 24, 82.— Post, 1939b: 22.— Post, 1967b: table 2.— Post, 1968a: 104, 105, 108, figs. 7, 9, table II.

INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Indonesia (Sumatra), Singapore.

Note: According to King & Puttock (1989: 25), Bostrychia calliptera is restricted to Central and South America, so that the foregoing records probably are referable to B. pinnata.
