Gongroceras radicans Zeller, 1873: 192 (type locality: Pegu, Burma).—Theobald, 1883: 30.— De Toni, 1903: 1494–1495.
INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Burma.
Note: Although it has never been lectotypified, Gongroceras Kützing (1842: 730) is routinely considered a synonym of Ceramium. It was apparently Zanardini's opinion that this species belongs to Ceramium since De Toni & Levi (1888: 43) cited a specimen from Pegu in the Zanardini Herbarium that was labeled Ceramium radicans. It is not possible to transfer G. radicans to Ceramium, however, because of the existence of Ceramium radicans Ardissone (1888: 212; type locality: Tierra del Fuego). The species should be reinvestigated before any nomenclatural action is taken.
