Carpothamnion Kützing

Note: Carpothamnion Kützing (1849: 668) is a substitute name for Thamnocarpus Harvey (in W. Hooker, 1844: pl. DCLXII), a later homonym of Thamnocarpus Kützing (1843b: 450). The type of the latter name is T. cornutus (Turner) Kützing (l.c.), treated as Plocamium cornutum (Turner) Harvey (q.v.). Thamnocarpus Harvey was proposed for conservation by P. Silva (1950: 270), but the proposal was not accepted by the Committee for Algae.
