INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: India, Maldives, Mauritius, Pakistan, South Africa, Tanzania (Zanzibar).

Note: The synonymy was proposed by Cormaci & Furnari (1988). G. Kim & Lee (1990), however, found that Antithamnion breviramosum in Korea consistently has three whorl-branches on each axial cell rather than the variable number reported for Mediterranean A. elegans.
