INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: India, Indonesia (Sumba and Timor), Kenya, Laccadive Islands, Mauritius, Seychelles (Mahé Island), Sri Lanka, Tanzania.

Note: Gelidium acrocarpum is included as a synonym on the authority of J. Feldmann (1931a: 157), who, however, incorrectly adopted the younger name. Harvey (1857a: no. 34) used the name Gelidium acrocarpum in his Ceylon exsiccata, but did not provide a description. The names Gelidiopsis repens and Gelidiopsis acrocarpa are usually accredited to Schmitz (1895a: 148), but that author made only taxonomic statements and not nomenclatural transfers. Desikachary's citation of Gelidiella repens was apparently a lapse.
