Ceramium teedei Mertens ex Roth, 1806: 108–109, pl. IV (`teedii') (type locality: Portugal).
Gigartina teedei (Mertens ex Roth) Lamouroux, 1813: 137 (`taedii').—Untawale & Jagtap, 1989: table I (`teedi').
Chondracanthus teedei (Mertens ex Roth) Kützing, 1843b: 399.
INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Seychelles.
Note: The Seychelles record probably represents the same species that has been reported from other Indian Ocean localities as Gigartina acicularis. Because the epithet commemorates Teede (the collector), it is correctable to teedei in accordance with Rec. 60C.1(a), enforced by Art. 60.11. The fact that Roth attributed the new species to Mertens in the explanation of pl. IV has been overlooked.
