DICRANEMATACEAE

Note: R. Norris (1987e: 153–154), after studying in detail the female reproductive system of Sarcodia dentata (Suhr) R. Norris, noted that the similarities between this species and members of the Dicranemataceae studied by Kraft (1977b) are so strong as to suggest the merger of the Sarcodiaceae with the Dicranemataceae. Kraft & Womersley (1994a: 321) and Liao et al. (1994: 843), however, discussed biochemical, anatomical, and reproductive differences that support recognition of both families.
