INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Australia, Mozambique, South Africa.

Note: The synonymy was proposed by Woelkerling (1980b: 231–232, table 4). The name Mastophora lamourouxii was first used, without a description, by Krauss (1846: 211), who attributed it to Decaisne. No description or illustration has ever been provided for M. lamourouxii var. latior so that Woelkerling presumably assigned this name to M. flabellata on the basis of a specimen, probably in MEL. Mastophora rostrata is a manuscript name applied by J. Agardh in his herbarium to two specimens from Western Australia which were referred to M. lamourouxii by Suneson (1945: 260).
