Note: The synonymy was proposed by Harvey (1849 [1847–1849]: 96). As pointed out by Ducker (1979a: 83, footnote), Decaisne unnecessarily changed the epithet to stelligera when transferring Corallina stellifera Lamarck to Amphiroa. All subsequent authors have perpetuated the error until Ducker, Foord, & Knox (1977: 83), who used the binomial Metagoniolithon stelliferum, but without validating the combination.
