Lithophyllum duckerae Woelkerling

Lithothamnion crassum Philippi, 1837: 388 (type locality: Mediterranean Sea near Sicily).—Bornet, 1888: 20.

Lithophyllum duckerae Woelkerling, 1983b: 173 (table II), 184 (`duckeri').

INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Djibouti.

Note: Lithophyllum duckerae is a new name for Lithophyllum crassum (Philippi) Heydrich (1897c: 411), a later homonym of Lithophyllum crassum Rosanoff (1866: 93–95, pl. VII: figs. 5, 7; syntype localities: France: Île d'Yeu, Vendée; Biarritz, Pyrénées-Atlantiques). The latter name was referred by Lemoine (1911: 169–170) to Tenarea tortuosa (Esper) Lemoine (1910: 368, 371) (Millepora tortuosa Esper, 1796 [1794–1797]: 118, pl. Millepora XXII; type locality: probably the Mediterranean Sea), a species not reported from the Indian Ocean.
