Pachycarpus morelii Montagne & Millardet, 1862: 6–7, pl. XXVI: fig. 2 (type locality: Réunion).—G. Martens, 1868: 96–97.— J. Agardh, 1876: 687.— De Toni, 1897: 254.
Kallymenia morelii (Montagne & Millardet) Børgesen, 1951: 39–40 (`Callymenia') (excluding records).—Jagtap, 1993: table I.
INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Mauritius, Réunion.
Note: Børgesen (l.c.), following the suggestion of J. Agardh (repeated by De Toni) but without examining authentic material, transferred Pachycarpus morelii to Kallymenia. He later (Børgesen, 1954a: 29) decided that P. morelii was not referable to Kallymenia and identified the Mauritius collections in his possession with Sarcodia montagneana (J. Hooker & Harvey) J. Agardh (q.v.). The identity of the species remains in doubt. The generic name Pachycarpus Kützing (1843b: 412) is a later homonym of Pachycarpus E. Meyer 1838 in the angiosperm family Asclepiadaceae. The type species, P. dilatatus (Turner) Kützing, is treated as Gymnogongrus dilatatus (Turner) J. Agardh on page 319 of this catalogue.
