INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Australia, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Kenya, Kuwait, Laccadive Islands, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Pakistan, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania.

Note: Dasya delilei and Asparagopsis delilei are superfluous names since the epithet taxiformis should have been retained. The conspecificity of Asparagopsis sanfordiana and A. taxiformis was proposed by J. Feldmann & G. Feldmann (1943: 81–82). Falkenbergia hillebrandii was shown by Chihara (1961) to be the tetrasporangial stage. In the confusing treatment by Desikachary, V. Krishnamurthy, & M. Balakrishnan (1990: 189–190), Polysiphonia rufolanosa, the sporophyte of Asparagopsis armata, is cited as a synonym of F. hillebrandii, but A. armata is not cited as a synonym of A. taxiformis and moreover is separately illustrated (figs. 39, 40).
